Dangerous Chemicals

Deadly chemicals are always present in all commercial products we used, that is a fact.

So how would we protect ourselves and our family, especially children, from these hazardous chemicals?

First, try to be a very health-conscious consumer, before buying products in the market, check the ingredients first and know their long-term effects in the body.

Below, is the list of deadly and questionable chemicals present in commercial soap, bodywash, lotion, shampoo, toothpaste, conditioner, make- up, facial powder and other skincare products.

Sulfates – These chemicals are constantly present in commercial soap, lotion and shampoo products. Manufacturers used these hazardous chemicals because it produces bubbly result and stable lather, but very dangerous to one’s health. Sulfates are in the form of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate. These are so abrasive that it can be used in cleaning cars and garage and other hard surfaces. Sulfates also touted to be carcinogenic (cancer-causing agents).

Parabens – In recent years, these chemicals have been the subject to many research studies due to its very harmful effect to the human body. In a recent study conducted by a group of scientist in San Francisco, California, Parabens are concluded to be carcinogenic because it mimics estrogen in the body, these chemicals are largely attributed to be one of the causes of breast cancer.

Parabens come in the form of  Methyl Paraben, Ethyl Paraben, Butulparaben and commonly found in commercial soap, lotion, body wash, shampoo, conditioner and facial skincare. Parabens are chemicals which have been used as stable preservatives and which give products a longer shelf life to two to three years. The shelf life of organic products without parabens is only one year because it only uses natural preservatives like Vitamin E and Rosemary Extract.

Phthalates – These chemicals disrupt endocrine function and have been linked to health concerns and certain form of cancer.

Triclosan – Mostly found in antibacterial products, face powder and toothpaste, this ingredient can harm thyroid function and encourage drug-resistant bacteria.

Formaldehyde – Originally used to preserve the dead body from decomposing, this ingredient is potentially carcinogenic and is now banned in several countries. This chemical is present in commercially sold soap, lotion hair and nail products.

The modern world provides the public with convenience but it brings so much troubles on health too and there’s no way people can do to avoid it completely.

Here's the best thing to do:

The next time you hit the supermarket, bring this list and always read the ingredients of the products before you purchase. This is not the right time to exercise your laziness. Exert extra effort reading the labels every time you shop.

The best thing to do now is SHOP WISELY and CHOOSE ORGANIC and NATURAL PRODUCTS ONLY. There are plenty of organic skincare products in the market today, check the ingredients, make sure everything is made from pure natural ingredients.

The only difference is that, well with its tremendous health benefits, organic and natural products are really expensive compared to commercially-sold products. But it’s worth every peso you will spend of course, considering the expensive health care now a days, spending a little too high on organic products is not really bad. Besides, when you patronize organic products, you are not only protecting yourself from danger, but also taking care of the environment.
